...and those losses were piling up. A 10-21 season for Darrin Horn's Gamecocks sealed the USC basketball coach's fate, as athletics director Eric Hyman announced he had fired Horn after four years with the school.
Hyman and the University will spend 2.4 million dollars to buy out the last three years of Horn's contract, and will now embark on a nationwide search for Horn's replacement.
Here's Hyman's press conference on Tuesday, detailing his reasons for dismissing Horn and his criteria for a new Gamecocks coach. Eric Hyman 3-13

Jay Graham excelled as a running back for the Vols. Now, he's returning to Knoxville to coach the position for Derek Dooley. Tennessee hired Graham away from the Gamecocks--in fact, Graham's already on the job recruiting, so he won't be going to the Capital One Bowl with Carolina.
The senior's been honored by college coaches. Here's the news, as reported by the USC media relations department:
University of South Carolina senior defensive end Melvin Ingram has been named to the 2011 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) All-America team, it was announced today.
Ingram, a 6-2, 276-pounder from Hamlet, N.C., led the Gamecocks with 13.5 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks. He also intercepted two passes, was credited with six quarterback hurries and scored three touchdowns, including a 68-yard scamper on a fake punt in the Gamecocks' win at Georgia.
The AFCA has selected an All-America team since 1945 and currently selects teams in all five of its divisions. What makes these teams so special is that they are the only ones chosen exclusively by the men who know the players the best -- the coaches themselves.
...it'll be the first time for South Carolina in the Capital One Bowl, and the first time facing Nebraska since 1987. The Gamecocks take on the Cornhuskers at 1pm on Monday, January 2nd in Orlando.
